SOMETHING TO REMEMBER

I used to constantly worry about what the future would hold. Knowing it was up to me alone, to create the life I wanted. Unsure what to think, or how to think. I found myself following the rest of the world, knowing there was more to life, but not knowing how to access it. Despite having unlimited information, I was unable to identify the value. Like separating sand from gold, by hand, in the dark. Incredibly anxious at the thought of wasting time, having such a high sense of urgency. I only became increasingly more frustrated and irritated. I realized I had surrounded myself with those who only added to my pain, their whispers of doubt echoing in my ears with every breath. I had been declawed, and domesticated by those around me, trying to turn me into a house pet. I was undeservingly stripped of my hard-earned title, punished for following the same rules I was given, by the same people that gave me those rules. Every false friend, offering empty promises and the illusion of loyalty. Every poison-filled social media post, leaving me feeling more lost and empty with every scroll. Yet, I couldn’t look away. I felt the need to escape the cycle of these addicting distractions and dead weight, but I was unsure of how to break free. Recently, I have been awakened. I’ve emerged stronger, and more confident, with a refreshing reminder of who I am. I have transformed into a sharper, and more powerful entity. The rate at which I’ve grown, has been exponential. I studied Ayn Rand’s philosophy and her writing, starting with Atlas Shrugged. The first lesson I learned was, never to sacrifice your life for another’s happiness. One of the significant themes in this story is Individualism. “This is the belief that you achieve on your own. If you want something for someone, you offer a trade, and you trade value for value to mutual benefit by mutual consent.” Ayn Rand rejected the idea of Altruism and Collectivism. This means you believe in self-sacrifice. “I’ll cut my throat for you, and you cut your throat for me.” (Dr. Leonard Peikoff, Introduction to Objectivism). Then, I learned how to truly think. Through the branches of Objectivism, I learned how to see through any argument and identify any logical errors, or fallacies. How to objectively identify when the argument was becoming illegitimate, or emotional instead of logical. Finding contradictions in any statement or by actions. I learned the importance of questioning everything. Do not simply accept what you have been taught. “Using your mind to come to conclusions on the base of your best judgment, as against being an authoritarian and just mouthing what the authorities around you say. If you don’t think independently, you’re not really thinking at all.” (Dr. Leonard Piekoff) Young minds are the most impressionable. Weakened by the pressured culture of the bewildered billions. In order to make decisions, man must first have a strong foundation and a clear understanding of philosophy. He must learn to apply the laws of logic to real life scenarios, or he will be consumed by emotion. If any man cannot control his mind, his mind will control him. If he has not built a tolerance to the poison of the masses, identified fact from fiction, or reality from fantasy, the effects will kill him long before he dies. The importance of connecting with yourself, or your higher power is tremendous. How to make affirmations, not just speak hollow phrases. To be able to clearly articulate your goals, to speak them with certainty, and execute them proficiently. This tool, when used correctly, can drastically set you apart from the rest. To become more self-aware, to self-actualize. How to dissect thoughts, feelings, and actions. Not only acknowledging strengths but highlighting weaknesses. “The ultimate superpower is to focus, to consciously choose to hone in on who you are, what you want, and who you want to be.” (Davis, 2024) I have shed old habits and beliefs that no longer serve me, embracing reality, allowing me to spread my wings. I've had a mirror held up for me, showing me my value, exposing my misplaced loyalty. I can find comfort in pure certainty, as long as I am aligned with the truth. I've gotten the tools and strength to cut the anchors holding me underwater. I have absolutely nothing weighing me down, I feel the lightest I’ve ever been, and I can finally breathe. Words cannot describe the relief that I feel, I have never felt more at peace. I am overwhelmed with happiness, for I can clearly visualize my future and I know exactly how to attain it.
