I had been declawed, and domesticated by those around me, trying to turn me into a house pet. Every false friend, offering empty promises and the illusion of loyalty. Every poison-filled social media post, leaving me feeling more lost and empty with every scroll. Yet, I couldn’t look away. I felt the need to escape the cycle of these addictions, distractions and dead weight, but I was unsure of how to break free.

Recently, I awakened. I’ve emerged stronger and more confident, with a refreshing reminder of who I am. I have transformed into a sharper, and more powerful entity. The rate at which I’ve grown has been exponential. I studied Ayn Rand’s philosophy and her writing, starting with Atlas Shrugged. The first lesson I learned was, never to sacrifice your life for another’s happiness. One of the significant themes in this story is Individualism. “This is the belief that you achieve on your own. If you want something for someone, you offer a trade, and you trade value for value to mutual benefit by mutual consent.” Ayn Rand rejected the idea of Altruism and Collectivism. This means you believe in self-sacrifice. “I’ll cut my throat for you, and you cut your throat for me.” (Dr. Leonard Peikoff, Introduction to Objectivism).

Young minds are the most impressionable, weakened by the pressured culture of the "bewildered billions", making it critical for man to have a strong foundation and a clear understanding of philosophy. To make decisions, man must first have a strong foundation and a clear understanding of philosophy. He must learn to apply the laws of logic to real-life scenarios, or he will be consumed by emotion. If any man cannot control his mind, his mind will control him. If he has not built a tolerance to the poison of the masses, identified fact from fiction, or reality from fantasy, the effects will kill him long before he dies. The importance of connecting with yourself, or your higher power is tremendous. How to make affirmations, not just speak hollow phrases. To be able to clearly articulate your goals, to speak them with certainty, and execute them proficiently. This tool, when used correctly, can drastically set you apart from the rest. To become more self-aware, to self-actualize. How to dissect thoughts, feelings, and actions. Not only acknowledging strengths but highlighting weaknesses. “The ultimate superpower is to focus, to consciously choose to hone in on who you are, what you want, and who you want to be.” (Ubermensch, 2024)

I have shed old habits and beliefs that no longer serve me, embracing reality, allowing me to spread my wings. I’ve had a mirror held up for me, showing me my value, exposing my misplaced loyalty. As long as I am aligned with the truth, I can find comfort in pure certainty. I’ve gained the tools and strength to cut the anchors holding me underwater. I have absolutely nothing weighing me down, I feel the lightest I’ve ever been, and I can finally breathe. Words cannot describe the relief that I feel, I have never felt more at peace.
